Iconic Sleich Animals from George at Asda

Arlo loves dinosaurs, and if you watched my Instagram stories this morning you would have seen him making his new T Rex eat a load of farm animals – sorry about that if you were eating your breakfast! Schleich are the world renowned maker of realistic animals, from farm animals to Dinosaurs and even make believe creatures too, like Mermaids and Unicorns! Now you can pick Schleich animals up from George at Asda online! Arlo was sent the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and loves it so much he took it to the child-minders this morning, even though he had to walk instead of scoot so he could carry it! He’s been asking me questions about it, like “why is the top of his mouth bumpy” and “what are these claws for?” –…

Getting Arty with the smART Sketcher Projector!

At the moment Athena is definitely more ‘arty’ than she is scholarly, although I know that may change as she gets older! At the moment if you give her a choice of practising reading or doing something with colours and paper she’ll always choose the latter. The smART Sketcher has made her even more keen on drawing now as she is able to draw absolutely anything she wants without frustration! It’s a clever projector that hooks up to an app on your phone, and it has a few different ways to use it: Step by Step Drawing This function lets you choose from lots of different pictures, from animals to transport and lots in between, and starts with simple line drawings that Athena traces over, presses the next button to…

Toys: Hape Space City Marble Run

Arlo has always loved marble runs, first obsessing over one at a friends house so much that I ordered one to arrive the next day. Now though he’s got the creme de la creme of marble runs to play with: the Space City from Hape. Not only can it be built in lots of different ways but it glows in the dark too! From an ethical point of view I love it because it’s mostly made of wood, so not only will it last a lot longer but it’s far more eco-friendly than ones made entirely of plastic, and hopefully we will be able to save it to pass on to future generations as it will still be in one piece after being played with loads! Sam and I opened…

Reviews: Crate Creatures Toys – interactive monsters!

You know that feeling of six long weeks stretching ahead of you, full of 6am wake up calls from a noisy and energetic three year old? Well that feeling was making me feel a little bit on edge a couple of weeks ago, but thankfully due to a well timed delivery of something fun for Arlo to play with he’s being kept pretty busy with not that much input from me, as he’s been playing with his new Crate Creature so much it’s like having a third child! These interactive monsters come ensconced in their own crate, locked up with a (plastic) padlock and chain! You first have to work out how to get the creature out, and then learn how to play with him! Arlo was sent ‘Pudge’ who…

Toys: Imaginext Jurassic World Dinosaurs!

Arlo’s next obsession seems to be dinosaurs, which started after we visited World of Dinosaurs in March, and he now watches endless episodes of anything dinosaur related, pretends be a dinosaur and has even started happily eating turkey dinosaurs for dinner! So imagine how excited he was when a gigantic box arrived with dinosaur footprints on it! Inside was a whole host of new Imaginext Jurassic World toys for him to get his teeth into! Imaginext is a cleverly designed toy range aimed at kids between 3 and 8, covering a range of themes and characters but the latest range is perfect for my dino-mad boy as it has lots of familiar characters from the Jurassic World films to get imaginative with! He zeroed in on the Walking Indoraptor first, probably because it was…

A Disney Vampirina Boo-tiful dress

Athena discovered Vampirina a few months ago, and it’s definitely in her top 5 favourite TV shows at the moment, and it’s also one that the kids will happily watch together, despite the main character being a girl (Arlo is a very typical just turned 3 year old boy, despite us trying to get him to like or even just appreciate everything he is very firmly of the ‘boys are better’ opinion right now!) Anyway, the show is about a little Vampire who moves to a new town as her family opening a B&B for ghouls and ghosts and the like! It follows her story as she starts a new school and makes new friends. For the eagle-eared parent you may spot two well known voices as her parents as…

Arlo’s Dream Horse with Petplan Equine

I spent most of my primary school summer holidays (and Easter and Christmas!) riding ponies, and I loved it! My dad had a small farm in Wales and we had two ponies, Misty and Frosty, but I also spent a lot of time at the local riding stables helping out, going on hacks on the mountains and helping out on the farm. It saddens me a bit now that I can only remember the name of two of the horses, Magic who was a smaller pony (who I am jumping on in the photo below) and Oliver who was an ex-police horse, and had feet the size of dinner plates! Sadly the cost of keeping a horse was way too expensive for us on the south coast, so I’ve not…
