Athena & Arlo – June 2017

Joined at the hip is more or less the only way to describe these two this month. There are tears from Arlo if Athena heads into the bathroom and closes the door, which she only does because we’re trying to teach her about privacy, not necessarily within her family but as a general rule – She’d quite happily have him in there with her for conversations whilst sat on the loo! The thing is they then get into mischief like smearing shaving cream all over the cupboard doors! Sharing a room has really forged the bond with these two though, and they are heading off to play in their room quite a lot, although Athena still calls it ‘My room’! She’ll sing Arlo a song when he’s not happy to…

Athena & Arlo – May 2017

A couple of weeks before we went away for a week Sam slaved over building a bunk bed for these two, and they spent two nights in their room together before we went away. I was expecting tears and to be sitting in the dark waiting for Arlo to drop off to sleep as I had done when he was still in our room but it was actually painless! A couple of minutes of hand holding and off to sleep he went!  They were sharing a room on holiday too  and all the fresh air and activities conked them out so putting them to bed was a breeze! Arlo got sick on the evening of our last day and hasn’t been himself since,  so has been napping during the day…

Athena & Arlo – April 2017

I know this photo isn’t the normal sort of photo I share for our monthly Siblings posts, but it sums these two up over the past month… running away from me & causing havoc. Either trying to get into something they shouldn’t, get hold of something they shouldn’t or generally just not listening to me! This was at St Pauls Cathedral on Monday, and was about the only time they were both going in the same direction! They are getting so close now that Arlo is talking more and able to communicate what he wants a lot better, and its just so lovely, even if I have been given a taste of what’s to come in the future when they gang up on me!   We went out for the…

Athena & Arlo – March 2017

I think both Athena & Arlo have been going through some sort of vast developmental leap, and Arlo has also been pretty miserable due to his back molars starting to break through. There have been wonderful windows of peace, laughter and cuddles but also a lot of the time they’ve both been tearful, tired and not particularly fun to be around. There was one disastrous rainy day last week where we only managed to get to the supermarket because of various other things happening and they both cried and wailed all the way round. They both demanded to sit in the trolley, then fought like cat and dog once in it then refused to walk once we took them out. I had to give them a banana each to shut…

Athena & Arlo – February 2017

Athena has really been embracing her role as ‘Sister’ over the last few weeks. Often she’ll say she has do to do something because ‘I am the sister’. When we get home she will now take off Arlo’s coat, hat and shoes and the best part is that he is so happy for her to do it! He plonks himself down on the bottom step of the stairs and holds his feet out saying ‘shoes, shoes!’ until she takes them off! It really is the most lovely thing. I took these photos on a little day out we took last week, just to a local old fogey bowling green with a little park and a cafe too. We had a (stressful for me probably not for them) lunch and a little…

Athena & Arlo – January 2017

Having almost a month off our normal weekly routines and spending so much time together has done wonders for these two. Of course there are the normal bickers and spats but in general all is smooth sailing with Big A and Little A! There are even some evenings where I can prepare dinner on my own in the kitchen without having to go and break up a tussle over a toy or the best side of the sofa!

Athena & Arlo – December 2016

The two tiny terrors are reigning supreme this month. They are as thick as thieves, with shenanigans such as: Climbing shelves in the living room to get to my nail varnish (Arlo) then opening the bottles (Athena) and using them to decorate their hands, their table and the floor (thank god we were having the carpet replaced anyway!) Opening a pack of Lebkuchen biscuits and smushing them into the sofa together Basically flinging all the bath water out of the bath and all over me and the floor Getting in the fridge (Athena) and getting out yoghurts for them to enjoy (aka get everywhere) when I am in the shower There’s probably more too but I’ve blocked it out! In a way I am super glad that they seems to…
