Arlo & Croup – how to spot and treat it

I’ve written this post to potentially help any parents out there that come across croup, to either help them spot it if it happens to their child or to at least know a little more about it. I asked in twitter if a post would help and got a few yes replies, I’m (obviously!) not a medical professional so this is just my experience. This is what the NHS has to say about Croup. It sounds a lot worse than it is, and the actual barking cough tends to go as fast as it arrived, which will hopefully be some reassurance! Last Thursday in the middle of the night Arlo woke up wheezing and coughing. Ordinarily I wouldn’t have been too alarmed but his cough sounded like a bark, a…

Baby Loves: Snugrugs Sheepskin

Last week I bought myself a new (to me!) buggy, as a consolation present for losing a house we really wanted to buy! I know this makes no sense whatsoever but I needed a reason to justify the purchase! This will also be an Arlo-only buggy, one he doesn’t have to share with his sister, plus I’m fairly certain that Athena is too heavy for it! Anyway, when I was offered the chance to try out and review a Sheepskin buggy liner I said ‘Yes Please’ and as it arrived a couple of days before the buggy we had it as an impromptu rug in the living room! The liner is from Snug Rugs who not only sell liners for prams and baby carriers (genius!) but also rugs, blankets, footwear…

Fisher Price Smart Stages: Scooter and Counting Colours clock

Fisher Price Smart Stages is a clever range of toys designed to last for longer than average and suit different developmental stages, helping your child to learn colours, numbers, shapes and more. As you’d expect from Fisher Price the range is well made, able to withstand even the most boisterous toddler attack and will last for years to come! We were sent a couple of items from the new range, ostensibly for Arlo to last him through baby and toddlerhood but of course Athena got in on the action as soon as the box arrived! Although Arlo is a little too small just now for the Baby Ride On Scooter he’ll be using it in a matter of months I’m sure! For now though Athena has been scuttling around on…

Bing’s House from Fisher Price

Athena only ever asks to watch three programs on TV. One of them is Bing, and it’s the least objectionable of the choices! I like it because each little episode has a nice moral to the story, and it deals with every issues that a toddler comes across; Sharing, potty training, losing things and bath times! Bing’s House is decorated just like the ‘real’ house and there’s even a Hoppity Boosh  (Bing Bunnies favourite toy) on his wall! You get Bing and Flop characters included with the house and can get the other child/adult pairs in the Bing toys range, and we were sent a Sula and Amma set too! I also like that the children are all bigger than the adults, making them the focus of the episode and the…

Babywearing: Manduca Carrier from Cheeky Rascals

When The Manduca baby carrier dropped onto the door mat (okay, it didn’t it arrived in a nice box and was handed over by a courier!) I was about 38 weeks pregnant, but that didn’t stop me from trying it out with Athena before her brother arrived! After all, I wanted to test out the claims that it can carry children from birth to pre-school age with no extra accessories needed. I’m pleased to say that at over 39 weeks pregnant here I am carrying my two stone toddler with ease!   When either Sam or I carry Athena it is with the carrier extended, in the photo above the top two green ‘stripes’ actually zip together so you can shorten or lengthen the back support really easily. Athena…

Mirror Mirror… with Ambi Toys

Arlo loves to look at himself and I mean really loves it! A few weeks ago we were in a restaurant that had mirrored dividers behind the booths and he spent most of the meal looking over my shoulder and grinning at himself like a complete loon, much to the amusement of us and the family at the table next to each other! So I knew exactly what I wanted to get him from the selection of Ambi Toys, the Baby Mirror! It’s a double sided mirror with a flower shaped surround, so easy for small hands to grip although Arlo is still not quite at the grabbing things himself stage but it won’t be long! At first we used the mirror to encourage him to lift his head and upper body…

Colief playdate

Last Wednesday Athena and Arlo accompanied me to a play date so nothing unusual there really, apart from the fact that was a play date in London complete with some amazing entertainers, lots of toys and activities and then a scrummy lunch!! Whilst Athena was being entertained and worn out I was off learning about Colic and vitamin D, and got to meet and chat to some lovely bloggers too! Colief asked invited us along to this brilliantly organised day to help spread the word about their products but also to learn more about general health and wellbeing of our children by letting us loose with three experts covering different fields. I had a really interesting chat with Maggie the psychologist about how my parenting style has changed and we also…
