Food: Parenting Fuel for All!

When it comes to making better food choices for the family, you need to lead by example. If you want your children to eat healthily, you’ve got to be seen to be consuming a vast amount of the good stuff. And while this is a very simple thing to communicate, it can be harder to do in practice. But, when you are a busy parent, you need adequate fuel. The best fuel available is the clichéd stuff, fruits, vegetables, protein, and complex carbohydrates. So, how can you get these into your diet, but also, what other foods and tricks should you use for energy boosts?

Pureeing

If you struggle to get your kids to eat vegetables, pureeing may be the secret weapon. The great thing about pureed vegetables and making a sauce out of every single type of vegetable that comes to mind is that you can sneak it into pretty much anything. Spaghetti Bolognese, chilli, soups, the list goes on. But don’t forget the flavour. This is vital to getting your kids to consume a type of vegetable, especially if you aren’t so keen on them yourself! Adequate seasoning makes everything more palatable. And now, as butter is back on the staple diet, as it’s full of vitamin K and healthy fats, don’t be afraid to slather your vegetables in it.

One Tray Meals

One tray meals are a godsend to the busy parent, chop up a bunch of vegetables, add meat, anything you want, with herbs and seasonings, and you’ve got a healthy meal that is easy to make. One tray meals make life easier, but it’s also a great way to experiment with different flavours. As long as your children are eating the vegetables, does it really matter that they are covered in chilli flakes, pepper, or any type of herb? At the end of the day, this will benefit everybody’s palette.

Focusing On Breakfast

And it’s important when you are finding the adequate parenting fuel that you focus back onto breakfast as the important meal of the day. Having a big breakfast, a medium-sized lunch, and a small evening meal is great for your digestion. So, make your breakfast an event, with various choices, not to mention the best coffee available. If you are a coffee snob, it’s always worth looking for the best place to buy coffee beans online that suits your taste. And if your children are old enough to begin consuming a small amount of caffeine, this will benefit their brain power. But be careful not to overdo it.

We may have busy lives, a lack of sleep, and other life pressures thrown at us. This is why we need to make sure that we, and the family, are sufficiently fuelled to tackle schoolwork, the deadly commute, and the long days at work. We seem to think that going without, or having extreme restrictions on our food will benefit us in the long-term. And while there are numerous benefits of practices like fasting, if you need the energy to focus for prolonged periods of time, it’s vital that you put the right fuel into your bodies.
