Kids Love: Flexible Fish Placemats

I am always on the lookout for things to make food fun for my two notoriously picky eaters. What they like and dislike changes on a daily, if not hourly basis. I am always seeking ways to make dinner time less messy. Athena is now a fairly neat eater, although she does sometimes tip over a bowl or beaker by accident but Arlo is a completely different kettle of fish! He’s at that stage of toddlerhood where within a split second he has decided that he will eat no more and shoves his bowl onto the floor, or has flung a handful of pasta at the wall. It takes a while to clean up after him and if I don’t get the table and him cleaned up fast he screeches to be set free from his highchair and throws more things around. So, dinner time in our house is not often a relaxing experience. Recently though my two little people have been dining in style with their new tablemats from Hexnub.

The mats are made from food grade silicone, and have a large flat surface that suctions to most surfaces like our oilcloth tablecloth or a highchair tray. No more bowls being flung, hurrah! The fish design creates three separate areas for food, so would be great for kids that don’t like their food to touch on the plate. The larger area is the perfect size for a child sized portion of pasta, and the two smaller ones could be used for peas, sauce or extra veg like carrot sticks for example! Generally whatever you put in the fish it will make the meal more fun! What makes it even more fun is that you can just empty the leftovers into the bin and pop it in the dishwasher just like a normal plate! It’s also oven and freezer proof but i’ve not put that to the test yet!

It’s flexible so can be transported easily, I’m thinking it will save a lot of embarrassment in restaurants when Arlo decides to play sweep everything onto the floor, and we can just wipe it out when he’s done and stick it in the dishwasher when we got home! They’re available in green, blue and orange at the moment. They’re definitely a big hit with my two, and would make a great present for a birthday or christmas around the time a baby starts weaning, and could be used for years after!
