Hurrah! My favourite season is almost upon us! We spent a week away and came home to leaves on the ground and colder evenings and nights. It was odd because we only went away in the UK but we had unseasonably great weather in the Lake District then it rained all the way back on the drive down south. Anyway, it’s almost here and I can’t wait! We’re in a different house to the one we spent last Autumn and Winter in and I am fairly certain this hundred year plus flint stone cottage that needs a new roof won’t be quite as warm as our old flat which was new and built to hold the heat! I’ve bought Athena and Arlo fluffy dressing gowns and cosy socks in preparation, but thought I’d share my own essentials too.
First up we need some lovely smelling candles, I love the flickering of tea lights but prefer a bigger candle for the lovely scents. A Cinnamon Yankee Candle is the perfect autumnal scent I think! I’d also get the sofa extra cosy feeling with some seasonal cushions, both these are from the selection at George at Asda. The changing of the seasons calls for a new snuggly fluffy jumper too, I’ve narrowed my selection down to three, the leafy one, the stripey one and the uber-oversized snuggly one. Perfect over leggings at home or jeans out of the house for those chilly early morning pre-school drop offs. A snood is an autumnal must for me, and this one from Not on the Highstreet looks just perfect!
When the day draws to an end then I plan to get cosy on a new memory foam mattress on a bed that I could entwine some fairy lights around, with the kids next to me and a film on the TV and a with a super soft blanket (admittedly this cashmere one is a possibly not the best idea with kids around who tend to spill and drop things!) I think these fleece ‘cableknit’ effect PJs are cheesy but would be so comfy in a chilly house! And of course, no chilly evening is complete without a hot chocolate with a generous dollop of gingerbread syrup, that stuff is the BEST ever!
