A bank holiday BBQ

You’ve probably seen #MorrisonsMum being flung about on twitter and instagram, and to celebrate their new cheaper every day prices. I was sent £80 to spend over the bank holiday weekend in store, and as we had a BBQ planned with friends on Monday I stocked up on meat for the BBQ, potato salad, nibbly bits and a fair amount of other items that ‘fell’ into the trolley.

Morrisons is my closest supermarket and I visit it on foot with the buggy once a week or so for top up veggies and milk etc but I’d never done a ‘big trolley’ shop there before. I didn’t keep track of the total as I went round the store, and thought I was probably spent around £100 but surprisingly spent £79.10 when I got to the till! There were a lot of the yellow ‘i’m cheaper’ tags visible all over the store, and were on name brand items as well as own brand. I admit i’m a bit anti own-brand at times so I chose a few Morrison’s own label items to see how the quality fared. So far so good with the tortilla chips, the bran flakes and the breadsticks! As always their veg was fresh and being gently caressed by the weird gassy/steamy stuff (please tell me you know what I mean?) but this was the first time we’d tried meat from them, the 3 for £10 offer bought us plenty and the peppered steaks were amazing from the barbecue!

At the till I did have to get defensive about my personal space as the elderly couple behind me had absolutely no concept of waiting politely till it was their turn. I could smell the dudes breath on my face he was that close, I’m glad I wasn’t having to put my pin number in or he’d definitely know it!

So on Monday we headed to the beach to catch up with friends and for Athena to eat handfuls of sand. 7 adults, 4 kids and 1 dog all had a lovely afternoon, Athena did her best to crawl after the older kids and I’m sure it won’t be long before she’s toddling around with them too!

With meat, buns, cheese, bbq sauce, coleslaw and potato salad the total for our bbq feast came to just over £20, so between 7 adults that’s just under £3 each which is fairly impressive! Oh and Ben and Jerry’s core ice-cream were half price, so that was pudding sorted when we got home!

So big Thanks to Morrisons for lowering their prices and giving me the chance to do a proper shop, the meat and the lower prices are impressive, and I got a voucher for 6p off each litre of fuel too, winning all round really!

What did you do on Bank holiday Monday?

I wish there was a Morrisons near me! I’ve a choice between Asda or tesco so Asda always wins for overall prices! Xo
