Touring the Thames

London-big-ben
On Friday just gone I headed up to London with my ma and the baby. I love London, I was born there and my parents lived there for years till I was 4 when we moved to the South Coast. I love exploring and learning all about it, although I don’t think I’d like to live there. It was wet but that didn’t put us off and we did a fair bit of exploring! We walked from Victoria down to Embankment pier, which takes you past the Houses of Parliament & Westminster Abbey. We then got the Riverboat Taxi east towards Greenwich to do a ‘flight’ on the Emirates Air Line, which are the ski lift-esque pods over the Thames next to the O2 arena. The boat takes you at a leisurely pace through the centre of London so you can snap away at all the iconic buildings, then goes at a fair lick towards Canary Wharf and the west. We stayed out on the deck on the way there, watching some amazing buildings and bridges whizz by. I also got extreme riverside apartment envy at some of the amazing looking penthouse apartments we passed on the north bank of the Thames. I might spend a bit of time googling the estate agents tonight so I can have a  nose at what they’re like inside!
We disembarked the boat at the 02 (the river taxis/clippers are really pram friendly!) and went to have a look for somewhere to eat in the 02 centre itself, after watching people climb up the outside of it to the top for a few minutes. We ate at Byron Burger (disappointing, probably wouldn’t visit again!) where Athena ate her first gherkin!

The last photo was a result of my camera getting confused about whether to focus on the rain drops or the outside, but I quite like the result! Note to self: learn to use manual focus. After our adventure in the sky we got the riverboat back into the centre of London (we sat inside in the warm this time and I had a mini nap) and then strolled up through Leicester square, along regent street and into Liberty of London so my mum could have a browse and a reminisce (and so I could ogle the stationery and candles) and then strolled along in the drizzle down Oxford street and had a browse before getting the bus back to Victoria and the train home! A lovely day indeed!

Ah such a shame you didn’t like Byron – it’s one of my faves! I’m still yet to do the airline!

Lovely pictures! Living and working there we’ve never actually explored london really as a family, something we should do before we move away!

We are regular visitors to London, mostly for GOSH unfortunately but try and include some fun activities as much as possible. We love the Thames Clipper!

Ace photos – especially loving that last one! Touring the Thames is not something that I’ve thought of doing before but it looks fab – and a great way to see a different side of the city.

looks like you had a lovely day, despite the weather. Shame about the burger, I heard Byron burgers were good, but I’ve yet to try.

We love London! We try to get there a few times a year as there’s so much to see. Disappointing about Byron though, we haven’t tried their burgers yet and had heard good things about them.

I have heard disappointing things about Byron from a couple of people, such a shame when burgers can be done so well. I am yet to go on the cable car, would you recommend it?
