Imagine a world pre electricity. Imagine not being able to flick on the lights as you enter the room, but having to navigate by oil lamp, or even more annoyingly, a flickering candle. I mean don’t get me wrong, I love candles, but as an atmospheric addition to the room rather than the only source of light. I’m grateful for the fact we have lights at the flick of the switch but considering they’re on a lot at this time of year I need to sort out some new lightshades. Our flat came with plain cream lampshades in all the rooms, we’ve changed the one in Athena’s room to match her purple cot, and the one in our room to match the blue colour scheme. The living room still has cream shades because I just can’t decide on what I want. I’ve been browsing through the range of lighting at Argos here for some inspiration.
I want something that is a bit different, but as the room is fairly small it can’t be anything too extreme, as I think it would look a but out of place. It would be nice to have one of those old fashioned (well, they make me think of the 70’s) lights that pull down over the dining room table for dinner and crafting at the table. The other thing I have to consider is my husband; not what he wants as I have free reign over the decor, but the fact at 6’6” he frequently clonks his head on hanging things. I’ve chosen a few of my favourites from the Argos lighting range, and was pleased to see that they stock Habit, who knew? I was annoyed when the Habitat store in Brighton closed a couple of years ago, and still have an amazing lamp from there with tiny little people in different positions on the shade so that they get projected onto the wall in the nursery when it’s turned on! My choices are all pretty different from each other I’ll admit…
Do any of my short list float your boat?
