Christening preparations

We’re having our daughter Christened in November, and it’s given me a nice little project to work on during nap times.
The Cake
To save money (and give myself a challenge) I am going to make a cake. Hopefully one with two tiers and different flavoured cakes. Hopefully the bottom one will be carrot cake as that’s what the top tier of our wedding cake was (we didn’t keep it!) and the top a sponge. I’m just uncertain as to how to decorate it! Realistically I know I shouldn’t attempt anything too intricate! Here’s a few ideas that I’ve pinned for inspiration:

simply amazing  rough icing
Possibly a bit OTT for a christening cake but I love the addition of the oreos! The simplicity of this is lovely, I’d possibly add an ‘A’ in the middle of the heart. The white ‘rough’ icing I think is really pretty, so perhaps a combination of these two. You can  the original pins and a few more on my cake board on pinterest here
Invites
We have invited a fair few people, it’s like the wedding guest list all over again! Although we’re having the christening on our first wedding anniversary so it will be lovely to celebrate with our nearest and dearest! I was very kindly offered the chance to choose some invites from Paper Themes to review, along with some bunting but I’ll share that after the event! Paper Themes provide a huge array of printed products, specialising in wedding invitations and other wedding stationery but they also sell a huge array of other things, not long after Athena arrived I bought this poster from them and it hangs in her nursery.

The christening invitations I chose are a a nice fairly traditional design with a Church on, although they do have more contemporary designs and also ones that you can add your own picture to. You get to specify the wording on the back and both sides are printed in colour onto nice thick card. The envelopes that come with them are pre glued so no annoying licking either!

I’m showing the rear of the card from the website as ours as my address on obviously!

The last thing to decide on is what we’re both going to wear! For Athena I’m currently umming and ahhing over my christening gown (my mum hand made it for me and it’s very traditional) or a nice party frock. Perhaps the gown for the church part and the frock for the party! There is also the offer of the gown Sam was christened in, but I think we’ll save that for the next baby!
I’ll share the finished cake and some pictures from the party with you after the event of course!
