Holiday Memories of South Africa

You’ve probably seen a few people recently blogging about their holiday memories for the Holiday Postcards competition, and I had a think about the best holiday I’d ever taken, so without further ado…
In January 2010 I spent three weeks travelling around South Africa. It was the most amazing holiday, and one day I want to go back and take my daughter to explore. You can see the route we took below, all three thousand kilometres of it! I ate the most divine steak, got addicted to biltong and met some amazing people.

We saw White Tigers on a game reserve near Bloemfontein, and visited a family with house trained cheetahs…

We visited the most gloriously peaceful beach ever… Oyster Bay. Not a soul to be seen as far as the eye could see…

Then we drove along the Garden Route until we could see Table Mountain in the distance, gradually growing bigger and bigger…

The view from the top was breath-taking, with the clouds rolling over the lower peaks, and the ability to see for miles and miles in every direction… I didn’t want to leave!
Cape town is a magical city, so much to see and do, and despite all the stories everyone we met was helpful and friendly and we never even felt unsafe, even when walking home from a night out as the sun was coming up!
On my birthday we watched hang gliders over lions head on Camps Bay beach with a cold cider and live music (Goldfish, whose album became the soundtrack to the rest of our journey)

I have so many amazing memories of this trip, and would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to visit South Africa.
